Temporary Works Manager

Working with: Estimating Department, Project Management Dept, External Design Offices, Drawing Office, External Drawing Offices, Site Managers, Clients, Consultants & Architects and Quantity Surveyors.
Overall Job Description:
Be responsible for managing the design team, including external design offices, planning workload and monitor progress against allocated budget and programme.
Provide temporary works designs and erection methodology for bridge erection and other projects.
Provide support and mentorship to other members of the Engineering department.
Be able to work independently and provide Engineering support to the Estimating, Projects and Site departments as required. The work shall include but not be limited to preliminary and detailed temporary works design, site change requirements, rigging / lifting calculations and preparation of Engineering Method Statements. The documents produced, including design calculations, specifications, drawings and sketches shall be clear and concise and shall meet the individual project requirements.
Attend project and departmental meetings as and when required.
Managing a team of engineers for the production of temporary works designs and erection methodology.
Lead structural engineering design on projects and check designs produced by others.
Review project drawings and carry out temporary works design.
Liaise with Estimating, Projects and Site departments on any design, VE, buildability issues.
Meet with client teams to discuss project and assist with VE or structural advice / issues.
When required, represent the Engineering department at regular operations meeting.
Represent Engineering department at Project Handover meetings.
Assist estimating team with tender stage design / erection methodology and design cost and programme estimates.
Check and validate bridge construction engineering designs and drawings.
Prepare technical reports and documentation as required.
Carry out full and detailed temporary works designs in accordance with all applicable design standards, codes of practice and client specifications.
Carry out temporary works design in accordance with companies’ procedures.
Prepare TQ’s / RFI’s for submission to the Client / Engineer for any design related queries.
Co-ordinate and manage external Design Offices, including providing design briefs, managing technical queries, reviewing deliverables and monitoring progress.
Provide input to drawing office for inclusion of fabrication drawings.
Attend project design and site meetings, as required.
Prepare notes of any design related meetings with clients and / or consultants and circulate to Project Team.
Prepare erection method statements & risk assessments and/or sketches on projects, as required.
Mentor and train other engineers within the Engineering department.
When required and as agreed, provide engineering support to the site team for weekend and out of hours bridge installations.
Review available software and assess suitability and advantages to business.
Prepare monthly Engineering reports.
Participate in regular reviews of the Engineering departments procedures and design process.
Detailed knowledge of 2D/ 3D Frame Analysis for temporary works and bridge design.
Steel Bridge construction engineering design to current codes and standards.
Experience of bridge launch and buildability options / solutions.
All work to be carried out to current CDM regulations.
Detailed knowledge of current codes of practice and standards related to design e.g. Eurocodes, Temp works design, regulations and statutory requirements
Good computer skills.
Good organisational skills.
Effective at communicating with others and presenting information.
Personable and able to get on with everyone.
Highly analytical and numerate.
Degree qualified Civil / Structural Engineer
Chartered with IStructE or ICE
