Senior Communications Engineer
Here at Babcock International, we are seeking a Senior Communications Engineer to work on the maintenance, defect identification, installation, commissioning and operation of niche external communications systems. Working with a highly experienced and motivated team, you will gain ongoing exposure to technical support of a range of leading-edge systems on submarines and vessels.
This is an exciting role that sits within our DST Division (Defence Systems and Technology, Mission Systems and Critical Communications) where we provide support to the MoD for various key communications and training systems in the UK and abroad.
This is a mission-critical Senior Communications Engineer post that is primarily based in Devonport, with travel to other sites in both the UK and overseas.
Main Purpose of Role
Carrying out defect investigation, maintenance, and installation / commissioning of submarine external Communications Systems
Provision of engineering support to other project within the Critical Communications Maritime Training systems
Stakeholder management / liaison with both Royal Navy and Project staff on a daily basis
Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences
Considerable knowledge of External Communications Systems (Ideally within a marine / submarine industry)
Significant commissioning experience in submarine communications systems is desirable but not essential
Relevant experience in network installation and configuration is required
Computer System operating system knowledge
IP Networks / Serial Communications
Knowledge of power supplies and electrical systems
This role will require an minimum of SC clearance initially but will be raised to DV clearance when in the role
This is an ITAR related project
Technically qualified to a degree or HNC level in their discipline (Electrical / Electronic / Mechanical Engineering) and / or have had at least two years’ experience as a Weapons /Communications System Engineers
Experience of IT systems and IT security will be required for this post
They will have extensive experience of MoD working practices, especially those associated with Weapons System Acceptance
Knowledge of shore based training systems based at Royal Navy Training Establishment would be advantageous
