What a heart-warming feeling it is to bring a smile to another’s face. But do you know what lasts longer than a smile? The feeling of supporting and empowering people with learning disabilities and autism to live a life that makes sense to them.
Seeing the difference that YOU can make as a Relief Learning Support Assistant (Teaching Assistant). Now that IS rewarding….
We are recruiting additional Relief Learning Support Assistants in Wingrave.
Shifts will be during term-time only.
You’ll join the team at MacIntyre School, a vibrant residential school for children with autism and severe learning disabilities. We’re located in the pretty village of Wingrave, between Aylesbury and Leighton Buzzard. You don’t need experience, just patience, warmth and the ability to learn. Of course any experience working with young people with learning disabilities would also stand you in good stead too.
You’ll be a Relief Learning Support Assistant (Teaching Assistant) working with students aged 10 – 19 who have complex learning disabilities. You’ll provide learning support to students and the class teacher, both in the classroom and during off-site activities. Classes are made up of 6 students but you will be working on an individual 1:1 basis. On site we offer excellent facilities for our students and a dedicated team of education, social, health and therapy professionals to cater for their needs.
How Relief work
The Relief (Bank) post supports the permanent rota staff by completing shifts that are vacant due to annual leave/sickness/training/unforeseen circumstances. As such, hours are non specific but the service will endeavour to balance the needs of the service against your own work/life balance as appropriately as possible.
We normally plan the rotas one month in advance and there is no obligation to accept the work. If you unable to do any shifts you will remain on our Relief register for 3 months before automatically dropping off. Of course the more you put in, the more you will get out of this. Could also be a great way to see if this is the career path for you whilst earning some extra money at the same time!
Who are we?
MacIntyre School offers an innovative and challenging curriculum individually tailored to provide each student with the best possible learning opportunities and outcomes. It is focused on developing communication, functional skills and independence in context. Learning takes place throughout the waking day whether at school, in the residential houses or out in the community, where we provide an exciting range of off-site learning activities.
Learning activities may include; life skills (e.g using public transport, shopping, cooking and cleaning), physical exercise (e.g. climbing, swimming, walking, water sports), work experience (e.g. on a farm), community access (e.g. in shops or cafes) or class based activities (e.g. music and dance & creative arts). Please note, some of our students require assistance with personal care.
Awarded “Good” at our Ofsted inspection in January 2020, here are some of the reasons you’ll enjoy joining our team:
‘Adults never stop wanting the best for the pupils. They see what each pupil might be capable of and work patiently and determinedly towards it. This is a school of aspiration and positivity.’
