A brand-new opportunity has recently arisen for a Specialist Support Worker to work within a supported living environment in the Knottingley area, that supports a number of individuals dealing with trauma and a forensic history.
This is a very unique position, where you will have great ability to make a difference to the people’s lives who you support. Within this supported living setting, you will be supporting individuals with a wide range of needs, no two are the same. For these individuals this will be the first time that they will be integrating and being involved in the community. We are looking for someone who is truly a team player and is proactive, extremely resilient, and hard working.
If you are someone who has perhaps completed a degree (or is currently undergoing a degree) that relates to Psychology, Forensics, Criminology, Mental Health Nursing or something similar and are looking for some relevant experience to take your education to the next stage, for example doing a PHD, then this would be a fantastic role for you!
What will this role involve?
Using emotional intelligence to work with the individual you are supporting by putting boundaries in place and making sure these are adhered to, while also ensuring the individual feels they are making their own choices.
Being able to imitate authority without overwhelming the individual you are supporting.
Working positively with individuals who show manipulative behaviours and be able to use your own effect on the environment to work constructively.
Following a detailed care plan wholeheartedly, as structure is very important for the individuals you will be supporting.
You will receive weekly therapeutic sessions to discuss how you are feeling, how you are getting on working with the individuals you are supporting and how to evolve your skill base further in your role.
You will be working in a highly risk assessed environment that is safe and supportive at all times.
What are the requirements for this role?
You will have previous understanding and knowledge of MCA and DOLS (we will provide refresher training on both; however previous knowledge is ideal).
You will have an understanding of what a journey for people going through trauma would look like.
You will be proactive and focused on the key aspects of outcomes/person led care and support, and implement this into your role.
You will be able to work positively with an individual who has a forensic background that can be quite significant (some sexualised/violent) by being able to look at the person they are today and work in an outcome-based way while understanding their background.
Only males will be considered for this position due to the background and the preferences of the individuals you will be supporting. Gender is considered to be a genuine occupational requirement in accordance with paragraph 1 of schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.
Details of the role:
There will be a full-time role available whereby you will work day shifts with sleep overs.
There will be a full-time role available whereby you will work waking night shifts.
Pay rate £10.50 p/h, sleep overs will be paid £62.64 flat.
For this role you will need to be available to start at the end of August, we have interview slots still available for the rest of this week and next. The reason this role is still available is due to more referrals. We are receiving a high level of applicants for this role so be sure to apply to be in with a chance of securing your interview slot!
This position is advertised on a temporary to permanent basis where by you will complete a 12-week period with the support of AJ Recruitment, resulting in a permanent position and transferring to our client at the end of the 12 weeks whereby you will be working to a set roster, however there is often the opportunity to work overtime.
