Our client is a delightful 10-year-old girl who has enduring needs arising from injuries sustained at birth. She lives with her parents and sister near Sheringham, Norfolk and is the oldest of the two girls.
This young lady has complex needs including cerebral palsy which affects her mobility and fine motor skills, she has associated severe learning difficulties, focal symptomatic epilepsy and microcephaly. In addition, she has speech, language and communication needs. Our client requires help with drinking, feeding and in the administering of medication as well as with all personal care including toileting. Essentially our client requires assistance in all the usual daily living tasks; dressing and self- help, bathing, teeth cleaning etc. She requires constant adult supervision and guidance in all areas as well as support to help manage occasional behaviour that challenges (e.g. sensory seeking, anxiety etc).
This happy little girl enjoys the company of lively people with outgoing positive personalities and particularly loves sensory play, activities with her family which enable her to be happy and engaged at home and she also likes going out and about in the community, so you must hold a full, clean UK driving licence. She particularly loves swimming, listening to music and rollercoasters.
We are recruiting for two permanent Support and Sleep-In Workers to assist our client in all aspects of her person-centred care, thus allowing her family to step back from their roles as primary carers and enable them to be her parents. These posts are part of a new care team that will be supported by a highly skilled therapy team. The successful candidates will be expected to implement daily therapeutic programmes that have been designed by her team of therapists and to work cohesively alongside those specialists. There may be occasions when the post holder will be required to assist with certain domestic chores, for example helping our client to keep her bedroom tidy and ensuring her equipment is kept clean and tidy. Household tasks will be required on a client-related basis only, to help ensure the smooth running of her care regime and to afford her parents the opportunity to spend one-to-one time with her.
We are looking to recruit for the following hours:
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 22:00 – 10:00
Friday & Saturday 22:00 – 08:00
Monday to Sunday 22:00 – 08:00
The flexibility to work additional hours as required would be desirable.
Our client and her family enjoy going on holiday and there will be an expectation for the Support & Sleep-In Workers to accompany the client and her family to provide support and/or accompany the client on independent holidays and short breaks.
Previous experience of working with children with special needs and their therapists is preferred but not essential, however enthusiasm, patience and a willingness to learn are required. Candidates should be confident about working within a private home and be sensitive to the needs and wishes of the client and her family. You should be able to demonstrate the need for confidentiality and privacy, have a good sense of humour, be reliable and trustworthy. The successful applicants will receive appropriate training and ongoing support.
A full, clean UK driving licence is required.
This position is subject to an enhanced DBS application.
*Exemption is claimed under the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9.
